Paragraph Panel Bug

Indesign 2017 Paragraph Panel is waaayyy buggy. When I go to manually change the "Space before" or "Space After", it replaces all my selected text rather than the value I have selected to change within the panel.

Any fix or update to the new Apps coming out soon?

    Hi khaba,

A solution for this issue is mentioned at Troubleshoot text selection issues. Please try the steps mentioned in the link.

Also, let me know of your feedback.

    Thanks,

    Monica

This still seems unresolved. This bug hits me more often than not. Today, it occurred in the Find/Change-dialogue. I either was not able to enter text into the search field or text I entered appeared in the wrong direction (from right to left). To reproduce this: Open Find/change, search for something you know is in the document (the found text is then selected). Now search for something that will not have any results. Then try to enter a new search - it won’t work (9 out of 10 times). It’s clearly related to the bug described here, because when you deselect the text that was found with the first search, text input in the Find/Change dialogue once again works.

The script linked above is not signed by a verified developer. After running it, InDesign would not start again, I had to reinstall it.

(And yes, I have disabled the type contextuals controls, that did not help.)

    Hi Cheshire,

    thank you.

Note: Your last message obviously was removed.
Wanted to quote you from this. So here is an excerpt:

This is definitely for 2017 -- a tech person responded to my bug report with this.

In the meanwhile I looked into the package of the app and discovered some specifities for CC 2017.
Seems that the installer is from 2015 and the payload is from March 6 2017.

But I ask myself why this fix is not distributed as update through the CC Desktop app ?
Where all Mac OSX user can benefit from the fix…

    Important for everyone reading this:
Do not install the app from the link Cheshire gave until an official Adobe download link is there with a TechNote.

Nothing's personal regarding you, Cheshire, just security precautions.

    Regards,
    Uwe

    Hi CheshireIsaacs,

how was this installer made available to you?

You said "by Adobe". Is there an official tech-note on this?
I myself would not install it, because I'm using a German version of InDesign on OSX and do not know, if this is for all localized versions of InDesign or maybe just for the English International one?

Can you tell us more about it?

If I unpack the zip an installer app—CopyTextPlugin.app—is unpacked that is showing a date from 2015.

So this might be something for CC 2015 users and not CC 2017 users.
This thread is about CC 2017.

    Thanks,
    Uwe

Same problem since upgrading to CC 2017.

Workaround works for me but would like this issue to be fixed with an update. Been paying $50 a month for about 5 years now, so would appreciate a feature that I use daily to work! Thanks!

The workaround that helped me is to go to Indesign Preferences>Advanced Type>At the very bottom of the panel is a check box that says "Show Adornment on Text Selection/Text Frame for more Type controls" Make sure this is unchecked.

This solved the problem for me and I can now used the paragraph panel and the toolbar as normal!

I have this too and it is a feature I use constantly.

Can't believe something that has worked for versions and versions gets broken in an update.

C'mon Adobe, we are all paying you good money for a functioning product. Now where is it?

Everyone in our studio has this same bug, it affects the Paragraph panel and the same functions in the toolbar. First time I contacted Adobe two weeks ago I did a screen share and they deleted all my preferences but it was a temporary fix and it was back within 24 hours, though I find it's inconsistent when it works and when it bugs out so it may never have been fixed at all.

Contacted Adobe again today and they said it was a known issue. When I asked for a fix they said "Install a previous version of InDesign". Wouldn't say I consider this a fix, especially as we now have hundreds of files we would have to take back to IDML between the 6 of us. They had no estimated release of an update to fix this issue.

Unfortunately that's the issue with a subscription service. I'd love to be able to go back to a stable version of all the creative cloud programs instead of this buggy rubbish we get at the moment. Does anybody at Adobe doing any testing or just send it and apologise later.

I can't install the latest dreamweaver because of an error (117) which apparently means i need to use another ISP to download the software. Interesting since all the other CC apps installed fine. To be honest it's probably a blessing given how buggy InDesign is.

Gone are the days when InDesign was the underdog and had to get it's S**T together to be considered in a professional workspace.

NOT in the Window pull down

    That's right it should be under Window>Type & Tables>Paragraph

This came up on a different thread yesterday, and is definitely an issue:

    InDesign space after in Paragrphs

My suggestion is to use the Control panel or the little arrow button in front of the text boxes until this is resolved:

I also see this issue, Application frame activated or not.
Since I do not use the Paragraph panel very often (always using the Contol panel or doing paragraph styles), I did not come accross this bug until yesterday.

    I have this issue too.

In the Control Window when you type a number in the 'space after' box it puts the number in your document text box rather than the 'space after' box.

    Hi Trevor/Zoran,

We are looking into this focus issue mentioned above. However as a workaround you can try the following:-

    1. Instead of text selection, if you just place the insertion pointer in the paragraph, then it works fine or

    2. You can click (or select) any another field and come back to the desired field.

    Hope this helps.

I also have this issue, it would be interesting to know if there is a fix, this only happened since upgrading to CC2017. I updated to Mac OS X Sierra and also updated my font software as well as binning the preferences, but nothing seems to help...

    Thanks
