Question

Paragraph rule set to specific length, regardless of width of text box?

Hi

I need a paragraph style for the photo captions on my project that has a rule below that is exactly 2p wide, regardless of the width of the text box. If the photos were all the same size, i could make a "rule below" and have the 'Right Indent' be whatever it needs to be so that the rule is only 2p. But I have photos of various sizes, so this doesn't always work without some fiddling. I was wondering if there was some way to do this?
Thanks,
Kurt

Easy as usual! Use a simple para rule below with an adhoc stroke style! No more!  😉

Forgive me if I'm being thick, but i don't get how this works. Does the stroke style somehow produce a stroke of the same length? Could you provide more details about how you set this up?

Basically:

1/ Create a specific "Stroke Style"

The trick is to create a very big "Pattern Length" (e.g. 1000 mm) with the right "Length" (20 mm) and "Corners" as "None".

2/ Create the "Caption" Para Style "Para Rule"

Now you just need to create your "Para Rule Below" with the right settings.

As already written, this trick I've given years ago is totally simple to play.

Make a table below and set the cell width to your value.

interesting idea...so to make that part of a style sheet...would it be some kind of script or grep thing?
