Paragraph Rules will not Edit or Transfer to a new Document in Styles

Hi all, I am having a very frustrating time trying to get my paragraph rules to edit or save in my paragraph styles setting. I am able to initially create paragraph rules and edit using all the typical functions. When I save the document and open it up later, or create a copy and try to edit the paragraph styles --> paragraph rules on the new document, none of the currently displayed paragraph rules settings are saved. THUS, the original paragraph rules are stuck on the page!! I cannot delete them or adjust them or do anything at all with them. Please help!!!

Sorry for later reply.

Is this the correct look of your document - or something is missing / wrong?

This is the correct look, I need to make another version that looks different however. I think I resolved the issue, I was thrown off that the paragraph rules changes to "rule above" after closing and re-opening!

I'm not having any trouble with the rules in the file you posted.

Are you sure you are trying to edit the correct rule? When the dialog opens it is set for Rule Above, rather than Rule Below.

AHA! So glad to report I was just being a novice user. It threw me that it opened up as "rule above" and not automatically as how I set it. THANK YOU for your help!!

What platform, OS and InDesign versions?

Maybe your document is corrupted - please try IDMLing - export as IDML, open, save with a new name - do not overwrite your original file.

And / or can you share your affected document(s)?

Hi! Thank you for your response. I believe I am exporting correctly and not overwriting the original file. I have been going to the file menu --> save a copy --> then saving a copy as a new name. Is there a better way to save? The original file should be unaffected. This has happened twice now where the original document (each created from scratch, or rather from a template that my InDesign teacher created) stopped allowing me to edit my paragraph rules. I will attach the latest version here!! Also I am working on Mac OS (Macbook Pro, 2023) with ID 20.2. Thanks !!
