paragraph styles issue

Hi, i have a 156 page layout that is doing something weird.

i see the below.

I option click on the paragraph style and the text will not be highlighted anymore, but it goes bold:

and i just can't figure out why that is happening. its only happening in some locations. these are the setting for that paragraph style:

i made a .idml file, issue persist. thoughts?

    Hi Jonathan,

    since you are working with a nested style that in essence means: Do all characters of a paragraph in character style "Bold" until you find character : it's logical that all characters are formatted with character style "Bold", because there is no character : in the whole paragraph to stop this formatting.

    that was it. no wonder. yes. i mapped this from word and i did not think of that. thanks.
