I just signed up and payed for the indesign application, but when I tried to install the app I was told my machine doesn't meet the requirements for indesign... I would think that was something I should have been told before they accepted my payment... I have a mac book pro, OSX, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Any suggestions to a solution?

There is no all one all mighty system requirements for the entire list of software that is offered with CC. You need to research based on the line of work you do and make sure your computer has what it needs to run the applications you use in your line of work.

The link below has the system requirements per application. I recommend you look thru it so you can make a list of the application you use and their requirements. More RAM is always a good thing the more the better , and if you do video editing you will go thru hard drives fast.

Hope this helps you figure out the spec you need based on the applications you want to run.

Thank you - an upgrade of the machine solved the problem

Sure. at least 16gb of RAM is great with a 1t drive and a time machine. i do heavy indesign layout of magazines and books and digital illustration plus photo editing. and these specs allow me to run indesign, photoshop and illustrator all day at the same time without lag.  Its all about what you do and than you might need even more RAM or extra drives or a higher caliber video card if you do 3D artwork.

and don't sleep on the mac mini, i have one. a ton of value for your money and you can get a nice big curved monitor with it and still come in $1000 less than buying a macbook. I am a mac mini evangelist...lol

Happily, a Creative Cloud subscription gives you access to run any of the CC versions: CC, CC2014, CC2015, CC2017. You can't run CC2017 but I'm pretty sure you can run one of the older versions until you're ready to upgrade your system.
