Question

PDF Export background stuck at 99%

InDesign CC2018 13.0.1

Mac OS X 10.13.1, APFS SSD volume

Same issues in two different computers, with 16GB and 32GB RAM

When exporting a PDF, the background export panel stays always working at 99%, so I can't exit InDesign cleanly. If I cancel the process, it's stuck for ever at cancelling.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not. It happens more frequently if trying to replace an existing document of just after deleting a Pdf with the same name. So, I suspect its related with accessing the hard drive and the new Apple APFS formatting.

The funny thing: after force quit InDesign, it remains a perfect PDF in the Finder.

I had the same problem and I've found the issue today. I have been editing from a SSD (Samgsung T5 1TB). This came to be formatted exFAT, this format comes with some accessibility issues that is conflicting with Apple's Privacy - in tern causing Photoshop to have saving problem I reformatted the drive to the new Apple format APFS and the problem is now fixed and also much faster.

    Hi Drew,

thank you very much for the details about exFAT formatted drives beeing an issue in conjunction with Adobe software and OS X Catalina. However, the OP states that he is on Mac OS X 10.13.1 with APFS SSD volume.

    Thanks,

    Hi Nousmedis

Is this happening with a specific file or with other files as well.

If this is with specific file , can you please share your file with me at rdubey@adobe.com

Hi robot_ID, it's happening with different files. Most of them generated using EasyCatalog (but never ever happened with CC2017 or Mac OS X 10.12.x).

The problem is: I upgraded both Macs with OS X 10.13.1 and then installed InDesign CC2018. So it can be related to new OS, new InDesign or both.

I've never trusted the background PDF export for the same reason, so I've switched it off, more relaible.

A lot of performance issues with InDesign CC 2018 have been the result of installing the program with "Import previous settings and preferences" checked in Advanced Options which are offered during the install. Please see the following link in the InDesign FAQ for more details and instructions on how to fix the problem: CC 2018 InDesign—Don't Import previous settings and preferences .

Both computers are fully formatted, so no old InDesign preferences to import. A clean install of InDesign CC2018 directly from Adobe after full formatting of hard drive.
