Pdf page selection

Can someone tell me why, if I make a pdf of say page 4 in one file, Indesign saves that setting? If I go to a different multipage file and make a pdf without checking all pages, it will only export page 4. Shouldn't all pages be the default?

Yes indeed if the same page number exists in another document, InDesign will preserve this number in the export dialog. Otherwise, it will default to All pages.

I can see how this feature can be useful and time-saving to users under certain scenarios, while in your case it causes inconvenience.

I think it's a good case for a feature request. Something like an option in Preferences, for example "Preserve output page range across multiple documents".

You can submit it here:

FWIW, I do find the assignment of settings between persistent (sticky between sessions), per-session (and across documents) and per-document somewhat erratic. Many things I'd like to be in one category are in another, for no completely logical reason I can see. It's just a matter of learning which are which and putting up with it.
