Photoshop missing in "edit with" context menu for images

I am using Indesign cc 2020. My "edit with" right click menu does not have Photoshop listed. I have to click "other" and then locate photoshop.exe everytime I want to edit my image in photoshop. What should I do so that photoshop is always listed in my "edit with" context menu?

Ok, so i think i figured it out... You don't need set Photoshop as a default program for.JPEG files. You ONLY need to open any file type (that you wanna have in that "edit with" context menu) by right click context menu > open in program > choose different program > open with Photoshop (just this time).

I recently installed fresh Win 11 copy and was confused, why it didnt work. Pretty sure it will fix this on every version tho.

Hi Yogesh:

It's likely an OS issue. Are you on Windows? If so:

  1. Close InDesign.
  2. Tell Windows to stop hiding extensions for known file types (http://kb.winzip.com/kb/entry/26/)
  3. Next, associate Photoshop with the .psd extension by right-clicking a file with a .psd file and selecting Open With from the context menu. In the Open With dialog box, click the program you want InDesign to use for files of this type. If it’s not listed, click Browse to see all your applications and select it there. Be sure to enable the “Always Use this App to Open .psd files” check box.

  4. Restart InDesign. Does it work correctly now?

Can it be that the program assignment in Explorer is not correct? What happens if you double-click the image while holding down the Alt key?

It's open in JPEG format

it opens in Photoshop? Then you could open the images with double-clicking the image while holding down the Alt key instead of using the context menu.
