"Placed" PS files in a ID document and printing

Hi folks,

I am working on an ID document that I will have to eventually send to a printing company. I am using image files with white backgrounds that i want to eliminate, so I have created alpha channels for the images in PS, saving them as .psd files, and I've "Placed" the .psd files into my ID document. I've done this so I don't have to create clipping paths for each image in ID.

My question is: Because I will have to "Package" my ID document to send to the printer, is it alright that I "Placed" .psd files, or is it best that I just go through each image and create clipping paths for them? Will "Packaging" and printing the document be a problem with these "Placed" .psd files?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Should be fine as long as the printer knows what they’re doing, but generally accepted practice today is to send a PDF.

Is there some reason you’re not doing that?

I guess just as a precaution and out of convenience. Maybe if there was something I didn't do before exporting to PDF that I don't know how to do, the printer has all the necessary things to do what needs to be done. Also there's no back and forth if there are errors being made on my part, if pressed for time.

Thank you for your quick response!

Caution and convenience are why you should be sending a PDF. But whatever works for you and the printer.
