Placing art or indesign documents in indesign bug

2 problems I assume are bugs,

1, when a piece of art (any format) is placed in an indesign document, I have the options to take it to photoshop for editing from the links palette. When I do that, and I refresh the link it will NOT come back in the size it was before. That means I have to resize the art in the box.

2. I place ads that I created in Indesign into a multi page document, so I'm placing indesign docs, into a indesign doc. It has always worked, so that when I update one of the ads, it will then alert me to update it in the larger publication. Now, when I place it, sometimes it comes in the right size and sometimes in comes in, in a much larger size. This also reverts back to my first concern. If I have to edit it, it will not update at the same size.

This is a feature I've used for years successfully. It has always worked until this version 14.0.1.

Hi eap_designs ,

so you are on InDesign CC 2019 where you experience this issue the first time?

Maybe you tested the new feature Content Aware Fill at some point?

Turn off Content Aware Fill in the preferences before placing your InDesign pages or updating artwork from the Links panel.

Regards,
Uwe

Can you give us some informations on your hardware and OS.

On my side here, I don't have any of those problems. The problem with linked INDDs could be related to some network problems.

I'm using a 27" iMac 3.8Ghz I5 core (late 2017). 64 gigs of ram, OS Mohave 10.14.2.   While I'm on the Creative Cloud subscription, I usually don't update right away, neither software or my OS. I'd rather let other people experience the bugs, I'd rather read about it online, and after it's fixed, I'll upgrade.  However, I was experiencing a problem with my Mac, and Apple Care suggested that I should upgrade to Mohave. I said I didn't want to do that, until I checked to see if there were any incompatibility issues with Adobe.  From what I read online, as long as you update to the 2019 versions of all the adobe software, you should be good with Mohave. So, I took a day to update all of my adobe products, and upgrade my OS.

Thanks to all who are following this for your suggestions.

Not sure about 14.0.1 (I don't use it), but it may be worth to look if Edit > Preferences > File Handling > Preserve Image Dimensions When Relinking is turned ON.

Thanks, but I checked, and yes, Preservice Image Dimensions when relinking is checked. I didn't think that was it, because it isn't consistent.  It always happens when relinking, but when placing, sometimes it places right and sometimes in places about 120% of the original size. I need to build a magazine this week, and I will take a lot longer this way. I might just make pdfs of all the ads and places those, but again, extra time and then if I have a last minute update, I have to re-place it manually.

Argh, inconsistency is the worst thing to troubleshoot. I just avoid using fresh versions for deadline sensitive projects.

Hard to tell without knowing your workflow, but maybe a graphic placeholders with predefined Frame Fitting Options could be of any help? Just a dirty workaround…
