Please help me with the "Go To State" button action

When I attempt to use the "Go To State" button action, the checkbox named "Go Back on Roll Off" is greyed out but checked / enabled. Since it's greyed out, I can't uncheck or disable it. I do not see a way of doing that. I've tried all I know of. I thought since it was greyed out, it might not actually be "enabled", but it is. When I create the button and use "Go To State" with that greyed out box checked, the state only appears as long as the mouse cursor is over the button. The state disappears (goes back) as soon as you hover or roll off the button. This is causing the "Go To State" action to be completely useless. I've tried changing the button "event" to "click" instead of "on release or tap", but still the same issue. I've tried reopenning the document, and also shutting down InDesign, but no luck. The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling InDesign. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Screenshot attached...

Sounds like could be minor file corruption

Before you try anything drastic - would it be simpler to recreate the element and the interaction?

------------------------

Create a new document with same size and dimensions/margins etc

Then in the troublesome document

Go to the pages panel

And select all the pages

Then you can Move Pages and choose to move to the New Document you have open

once you move the pages over - does the issue persist?

------------------------

If a document is not behaving well then try
File>Export
Choose IDML
Open the IDML in InDesign
Save the file as a new InDesign file with a new name

See if the issue persists.

Fun fact - your IDML file is literally a ZIPPED file - you can change the extension to .zip and unzip (Mac native unzip is bad, download a different one).

Once you have the file open - you can possibly find the state in the XML files and change it - usually from True to False or something.

I've done this in the past when I couldn't delete a Swatch from the InDesign file - it was just locked in and wouldn't delete.

------

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the

I did already try making a completely new document using "Go To State" after restarting InDesign and also my Mac. That didn't work. But I followed your instructions on deleting preferences, then made another quick new document and made a "Go To State" button, and thank goodness it seemed to work! The greyed out check box isn't checked anymore. And it WAS still checked when I tried that before. I haven't tried the "Go To State" on my work project yet, but I most definitely will. I will post and let you know if it worked. I really think it will work. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the update - I'll mark it as correct but if the issue persists let me know and we'll revisit the issue.
