Beginner InDesign. Editor of student newspaper taking over the InDesign formatting of the paper as well, and graphic design prof is gone for the week! It is a 28 page magazine type newspaper publication (81/2 X11 printing on 11X17.. 0r maybe 12X18)... currently there are 14 tabloid pages... so when I change to facing pages in document setup, it actually shows 2 pages facing 2 pages (two tabloid pages facing each other). Design prof set up my master page, so I went from there. Should I have set out from the master with letter size??..

I found helpful tutorials on exporting as pdf booklet or something along those lines (that appear to be in the same format as previously saved editions on my computer which prof helped with), but I can't figure out how to make the necessary transformation to take all the content from the halves of the tabloid pages and give them their own page. I'm guessing it's because of this that my pdf, despite following tutorials exactly, are blank?

I feel this must be simple but with my little knowledge I am not finding helpful solutions online! Am desperate. Losing sleep. Please help.

Generally, you want to set up your document at the size of the finished piece (8.5 x 11 in your case)...so that you can easily move pages around and print in spreads to get the 11 x 17. I would just change the size to 8.5 x 11 (maybe in single non-facing pages to start)..then move the items that fall outside that to the next page, etc. So basically create additional pages to hold the items that were on the right side of the 11 x 17 page. You can put the 8.5 x 11 pages side by side by un-checking "Allow Pages to Shuffle" in the Pages panel.

(hope this makes sense...typing on mobile)

    HI hct,

If I get you correctly you have facing pages in your InDesign document and when you open them in tabloid they are showing 2 pages on one page? Is that correct?

Here is a video tutorial for simple tabloid newspaper
