Dear Folks,

I am a newbie to Indesign. I have placed a layered Photoshop file in my library. When I try place it in an Indesign file all the layers disappear and I get a single image, no layers. I'd like preserve the layers in the inDesign document. I've done it before, but I can't remember how. I 've scoured tutorials and help sites, but no luck.

Thanks so much for your help!

-Walt

When you place a layered Photoshop file into the CC libraries (called Libraries in Photoshop), make sure you've selected all the layers before saving it as a Graphic.

In InDesign, right-click and choose Place Linked (to maintain a link) or Place Copy (to just place the graphic). The layers can be viewed with Object > Object Layer Options. You can turn them on or off, but you'll need to return to Photoshop to edit them.

Dear Steve,

Thanks so much. That works. Is there another way? I seem to remember doing it and the graphic appeared with a little box in the layers panel. When I clicked on the box the layers appeared. Does it matter how I place the the graphic in the library?

Thanks again!

In Photoshop, I selected the layers I wanted to include in the Layers panel, then clicked the + menu at the bottom of the Libraries panel, and selected Graphics. Seemed pretty easy.

You won't see layers within a PSD image appear in the Layers panel itself.
