Pressing Tab skips cell in table

I am using InDesign v16.2.1 on a Mac (Big Sur v11.4). I have been having this issue for a while - on multiple versions of InDesign - and am hoping someone knows of a workaround or solution because it's getting pretty frustrating. When I press the tab key in a cell, it skips an entire cell. To be clear, I don't mean that it skips to the next cell as it is supposed to, I mean that it completely ignores the next cell and goes to the one after it. But only sometimes. Sometimes it behaves. Sometimes it does not. This happens whether the cell is empty or contains placeholder text. I can only assume that this is a bug that might be specific to Mac users, but if you have any advice at all, I would really appreciate it. TIA!

Have you tried a different keyboard? Sounds like a key malfunction to me.

Well... thank you. I don't know why that wasn't the first thing I tried months ago. I'm kind of ashamed of myself for this one. Thanks for the help!
