Preview on GPU vs CPU

I often find that Preview on CPU runs faster than Preview on GPU. Is this normal? I'd have thought the GPU would surely be the faster option?

Not a big issue, just thought it's a bit weird...

My specs below. Usually have InDesign (2017 12.0) open on a second, larger monitor.

    My experience is that it is not-quite-right and tending toward crashy. I switch it off.
