Question

Printed text has a shadow

Text in Indesign and Illustrator has a 'light shaddow' surrounding each character when printed from within the applications or when a pdf of the files is printed.  It seems to be in the vertical aspect of the characters and not in the horizontal aspect.  The same text printed in Pages or Word does not show this 'shaddow'.

In 2024 I have just come across exactly the same problem. I am many years professional use of Illustator since the 2nd version and I've checked everywhere, there is nothing that has been added.

A client of mine printed her biz card and told me there was a dark bluring behind the text. I told her that it must be the printer.

Many months later I am using the same text from that same biz card to produce another design. I have copied the text from the original PDF and pasted it into Illustrator and there it is. Its just showing as a thin shadow and nowhere can i see a way to remove it as its nots recognised anywhere. Its fine as I can retype the text but it isn't good when it is nowhere to be seen until it is printed - even not visible in the PDF, which in theory is virtual printer!
How can i trust that this is not going to happen again with a new client! This is definately an Adobe problem.

I am using the lastes version software as I have been all the way through.

If you see the shadow in Illustrator, this is not the same issue as he original post, where the shadow only shows up when printed. Also, this is the InDesign forum, you might start a new question in the Illustrator forum. What font are you using? what happens when you change the font? Are there any layers? is the type grouped? does it have transparency? Is your Acrobat page display preference for overprint preview set to "Always"

Well, I purchased and installed a new HP printer and the effect is gone.  Since the old printer worked with applications other than Adobe's, over time,  the  Adobe-HP or Adobe-HP-OS connection must have become somewhat incompatible.  Or, so it would seem.

Can you post a screen shot showing the problem. Also what operating system and what version of InDesign are you using?

Again, check the effects panel. Looks like you have a shadow applied.

Make sure you don’t have any effects applied.
