Question

Printing an InDesign brochure

I've been working for an events company and designing these brochures for nearly 3yrs now.

I create in InDesign then export a s a pdf. Never had this problem before until the last couple of months. And even then it's just one random box in a booklet of 16 pages (could be 3-9 gold boxes on any one page at a time) Anyone have any ideas why this happens? Never shows up in acrobat when I do a print preview. Just happens when I gets printed.

Also, my boss bought his own printer a few months ago to save on printing costs...wonder if that might have anything to do with it?

Can obviously counter it when found by saving said page as an image, but its still very strange and hadn't happened till recently.

Thanks in advance 🙂

  1. Yes. The boss bought a printing machine to obvs cut down on money spent going to the printers. I'll ask which viewer he's printing from.

Thanks Tom 👍

Send him a pdf exported to one of the PDF/X standards. Don't include spot colors unless they are actually being printed as separate inks. To reiterate the good information above;

Check for print driver updates by searching your printer name and model, download and install.

Use only Acrobat or Reader to print, check for updates under the Help menu.

Use the print setting "simulate overprint" if available.

In a pinch, you could use the print setting "Print as image" but this should only be used as a last resort.

@N1cky.B

Do not print directly from InDesign - Export as PDF then print from Acrobat.

What happens if you try to print just that page (selecting it in the dialog)? If you extract the page to a new file and print that?

I'll ask. I'm nowhere near the printer (different part of the country!)
