Question

Problem linking Excel table to Indesign

I have imported an Excel table into InDesign. I made sure the "Create Links when importing Text and Spreadsheet Files" was checked. However, when I import the table by clicking in a text box, the link isn't made. The link is made only when I choose File-Place and then click somewhere on the page. The link is not made as soon as the table is in a text box. Anyway around this?

I don't understand "import the table by clicking in the text box," Are you meaning copy/pasting in the text frame.? Because you say it does work with File > Place.

If I have no existing textbox in a page and I choose Place, select my Excel file and then click anywhere in the page, my table is created with a link to the original file. This is good. However, if I have an existing textbox with other elements in it, I click somewhere in that textbox and I choose Place to import the Excel table. When I look in my Link window, the file is not there, the file is not linked!

To help us troubleshoot, please tell us: Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using.
