Problem saving files in InDesign on Windows

Hi, our org has had major issues with save files being ‘corrupt’ InDesign crashing etc due to a recent windows security update. I noted there is a newer version of InDesign which did nothing to fix and there was a threat microsoft were working on something.

Is this fixed yet or not, I am reluctant to turn updates back on for microsoft but really don’t want to leave them off either!

    Hi @garethirwin1234  and everyone,

Thank you for sharing the details. Could you please go through and try the steps mentioned in this post: https://community.adobe.com/questions-671/indesign-files-corrupted-and-unable-to-save-after-windows-11-update-kb5074109-january-2026-post-2-1546893/index2.html?postid=7484108#post7484108. These steps specifically address the Windows update-related issue that has been linked to file corruption and save failures.

After trying them, please let me know whether the issue is resolved on your end. Your update will help us move this forward and support you better.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

The workaround you suggested is only for OS builds 26200.7628 and 26100.7628. My current OS build is 26200.7623. What do you suggest can be done for my OS build? I have uninstalled KB5074109 from my laptop and this seems to be a temporary fix because of Microsoft security concerns.

    Hi @defaultin19hq4scwkj,

Thanks for sharing the details. Your system can still be updated to KB5078127, which has addressed similar save and corruption issues for other users. You can refer to the Microsoft Update Catalog here to download and install it: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5078127.

Please try updating to this patch and check if the issue is resolved on your end. If you’re still experiencing problems after that, I’d recommend reaching out to Microsoft Support directly at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us so they can assist.

Once you’ve had a chance to test this, please let me know how it goes.

    Looking forward to your update.

My Windows and InDesign are fully updated, and my friends who use Macs don't have the same problem.

That is correct. Because it is specifically a Windows Update fault. Try updating to patches made available in February.

    • Security (Feb 10, 2026): KB5077181 resolves various security vulnerabilities across the OS.
    • Cloud Storage Fix (Jan 24, 2026): KB5078127 addressed bugs with opening/saving files from OneDrive/Dropbox.

This update was reinstalled last week on my computer and I just had to uninstall it to keep my files from being corrupted again. The issue has not been fixed.

I have had success allowing recent Windows Update to run and fix the problem that began in January 2026 that was a faulty windows update. Most are reporting that the updates from February are making the problem go away.
