Problems regarding changing from Type1 to OpenType fonts

Hi everybody,

I was using an old font that is no longer supported in InDesign due to its format (Type 1). That's why I bought the exact same font in OpenType format.

However, now I have the problem that when I open an InDesign document and replace the "old" font with the "new" using the font replacement function (replace old with new format), the texts are larger than the associated text frames, although I have not changed the font size.

Also the documents are now pretty slow when I'm editing the texts inside.

Here are some screenshots. Is there a quick way to work around for those problems?

Grateful for any tips!

Despite having the same name, it's a different font and all you can do is make the adjustments or go back to an earlier version of InDesign and keep using the Type 1 version. This would be relatively simple if you properly used paragraph and character styles.

Hi there, thanks for the idea but this not a long term solution, since I would't be able to update InDesign at all then. I'll have to change all the text blocks in all documents, which is pretty annoying... ;(

If someone has another solution please please tell me!

Talk to the original font vendor whether they have or can produce a more compatible version. With quality fonts incompatible overhauls at that scale should earn themselves a different name "Pro, New, Neue" rather than forcing those changes on you.

There are also plenty free or commercial utilities to convert fonts. Have a look at the end user license of your font and/or ask a lawyer whether that is permitted.
