Problems when placing an image in indesign

Hello there!

When I try to place an image into a indesign document ( without placing into an existing frame) the image will not fill out the frame, and the frame proportions is aparently chosen at random without regars to the photos proportions. The frame proportions is fixed unless pressing shift, and the option key makes no difference. This is extremely frustrating and I really can't figure out how to fix this. Any suggestions?

I am using a m1 pro macbook running Monterey 12.4, have had this problem for half a year. It doesn't matter what document i work in, if i place by using the context menu or drag and drop from files, nor does the file format matter.

Thanks!

Hi @benjaminr70786980 , If you want to place and scale an image while maintaining its aspect ratio, don’t drag—just click on the page and the image will be placed at 100% inside a matching size container. After placing, Command-Shift drag one of the corner handles using the black Selection tool and the image and its parent container will scale without changing the aspect ratio

Hi, thanks, but it still won't help.

Looks like you have the [Basic Graphics Frame] set as the default Object Style. With no documents open check Frame Fitting Options and set it to this.

Also, with no docs open set Object>Fitting>Frame Fitting Options to the same

  1. What are the fill frame settins?
  2. Is the ratio of the frame locked?
  3. Do you use an object style?
