problems with images in InDesign 2023

Hi All, since I have updated InDesign, until the latest version available today (August 2023), I'm experiencing a weird problem with imported files (links), no matter if these are jpgs, tiffs, eps or pdfs.

The problem is that after the file is closed and then reopened one or more days after, it seems like the file is missing the original link, although the fast preview is ok. When I switch to high-resolution preview, the image's preview appears glitched...

The worst is that exporting the file in pdf, a warning message appears saying that "The document has no accessible links/URLs". Then I check the "Links" window and no warning appears (like the usual yellow triangle signal).

It is a quite frustrating and wasting time problem. I guess if it is a bug or a memory problem.

Hoping somebody could help me somehow. Thanks in advance.

I'm glad I found this thread. I updated last Wednesday and when I went to use InDesign on Thursday, I've had nothing but the spinning wheel of death, freezing and crashing. I deleted the preferences, emptied the cache, deleted the SING files and the sdobe font list files. Nothing! Freezing and crashing. The suggestion here to downgrade to 18.4 was terrific and so far so good. My computer is older and I have ordered some RAM chips to help out. I know I need more RAM. In the interim, this was a great solution to work until the chips arrive and am able to shove it into the backside of my iMac. Thankfully I was not the only one with ID issues. The crashing was the worst.

I was having issues closing Indesign after finishing my work on a Windows 10 machine. I had to go into task manager and "end task" that way, otherwise it would just sit there with a spinning icon. I just down-graded back to version 18.4 and the issue is fixed.

Often problems with a new update can be fixed by restoring InDesign preferences and caches. Here's how:

Downgrade to 18.4 - looks like recent 18.5 update is quite buggy ...

As I'm still on 18.4 - I've just turned OFF AutoUpdate, just in case ...

FYI, I'm having no problems with 18.5 on my MacBook Pro M1 running Ventura 13.5 so each to their own.

Are the images on the same server?

If they are on a remote server, is the server always connected the same way?

Do not use EPS anymore as it is an archaic file type. Use PDF/X-4 instead.

Willi, thanks for your reply. I store everything on my MacBook Pro, without using any remote server. Thanks for your suggestion regarding eps files. The problem seems not to be with the file type. Kind regards
