Publish Online interactive buttons not clickable and page flipping after updating to InDesign 21.3

Publish online BUG!

------------------------------

The newest version of InDesign (21.3) gives bugs in the published online document. Certain buttons aren’t clickable anymore (it can be fixed by changing the layers they’re in, but they have been working perfectly fine for years) + another certain page with buttons completely flips when hovering over buttons - see here: test buurt

Tried going back to the previous version of InDesign (21.2), did not help. Same for (21.1).

What changed?

Urgent!

Thankyou,

Helen

    Hi Jeffrey,

I did not change anything to this page! And I agree this page looks difficult with buttons layering over one another but they don’t, they are designed so they cut clean near their own boundaries :)

On other pages it are very easy and clean buttons that suddenly don’t work anymore.

But I understand the question, thankyou! :)

Did you update content and open into a newer version of Indesign? With all the elements and the top row of diagonal buttons, editing any content could easily disrupt layering.

Not to say an Indesign update did not cause issue, but this design is prone to elements interring with one another.

    Hi @Hln88,

I'm sorry for the experience and understand how frustrating this must be, especially when the Publish Online workflow was working fine earlier. I tested this behavior on InDesign 21.3 on Windows 11 but could not reproduce the issue on my end.

Could you please confirm if this happens only with a specific document or across multiple/all documents? To help isolate whether this is document-specific, please create a small new test INDD file, add a few interactive buttons with rollover states, publish it online, and check if the same behavior occurs there as well.

If the issue does not occur in the new test document, then the original file may have some corruption related to the interactive elements. In that case, please try opening the affected document, save it as IDML, then reopen the IDML file and save it back as a fresh INDD file. After that, publish the new INDD and test the behavior again.

Also, if possible, please share the affected document by going to File > Package and then share the packaged folder with us either here or through DM if the file is confidential. You can use any cloud transfer service such as Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc., and share the downloadable link.

Looking forward to your update so I can check this further.
