Publishing document through InDesign is very lo res even when the file isn't

I created a document in InDesign that consisted of placed hi res pdfs with copy on them. The pdfs are barely legible. Only the text that was created in InDesign is legible. Any thoughts?

Hi @Amy24590612gi4z ,

then we need some screenshots. An InDesign sample page showing the placed SVG graphic with the Links panel open and the SVG graphic selected on the page. Also a screenshot of the published page in a web browser. And the link to the published document if possible.

Hi @Amy24590612gi4z ,

if you do Publish Online documents with placed PDFs all their contents will be transformed to pixel elements.

The only omission on InDesign pages are editable text and placed SVG vector graphics. Editable text will be converted to SVG vector shapes. SVG graphics should stay as they are ( there are some bugs also with that when you are scaling them on the page ) .

One way around this issue would be to transform your PDF pages to SVG files using Adobe Illustrator for example.

But also this has some pitfalls we can discuss if you want to do that.

Uwe, thank you so much for explaining what is happening. So then I should open the PDFs that I created in InDesign in Illustrator and convert thtem to SVG files? I'll try that.

Please provide more infomation about your system:

Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using. What application created the PDF files? Do the PDFs look high resolution when you open them in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader? When you're viewing them in InDesign did you turn on High Quality Display in View > Display Performance?

Hi Steve,

Using Monterey on a Mac. Using the latest InDesign I assume since I'm using it online with Creative Suite. I created the PDFs in InDesign originally. They look great when I open them in Acrobat. They were created using High Quality Display. Hope that helps.

Have you tried placing the oriinal InDesign files instead of PDFs? You can do that as long as you have access to all the fonts and graphics used in the linked InDesign files.
