Questions Indesign Opening Dialog

Hi, I have two questions regarding the Indesign opening dialog that I can´t figure out by myself:

 

1.) When you open a document that has a different profile attached than the working space and your color management policies are put on "convert to working space" the native colors are converted (the numbers change) as you would expect.

But when you activate "Ask when opening" and you choose "convert" and the working space profile in the opening dialog (so basically the same thing) the numbers of the native colors aren´t changed. Why is that?

 

2.) I also dont understand the difference between "activate all profiles" and "keep assigned profiles" under placed content (actual phrasing might be different, I translated it from german) It doesn´t seem to make any difference.

Hi Pascal,

I was going to refer you to this Adobe help page:

But it appears to be embarassingly out-of-date. It still refers to the use of Adobe Gamma to achieve a calibration of your monitor! Seriously, that was 25 years ago. Some of the Adobe boffin might want to update this page.

 

In short, my practice has been to work all-RGB.

My prep work has been to use a colorimeter tool to calibrate my monitor screen.

My prep has been to setup color management in Photoshop > Edit > Color Settings, taking the time to save a .CSF color settings file that I then go visit Bridge > Edit > Color Settings to choose the same custom-named .CSF settings. That communicates the same color management to InDesign, Illustrator, and (sorta) Acrobat Pro to follow the same "house rules" of color management. Part of what I chose in the first step in Photoshop > Edit > Color Settings was to turn OFF the Ask Me buttons. This basically means: Don't ask me what to do; just always do what I setup here in Photoshop for color management. This makes sense to me to skip the Ask Me dialog boxes because the whole point is to do color management exactly the same way from PS on down to ID. 

This approach makes both your questions unnecessary and simplifies your workflow.

    Hi Mike, thanks for sharing your workflow and taking the time to lay it out. Nevertheless I´m still curious about the reasoning behind the different outcomes. I simply would like to understand Indesign better. So if you know why that is happening, I would appreciate if you could share that Information. Thank you for your help!
