Quick Look previews for InDesign files stop working on macOS after uninstalling InDesign 19.5.4.

Hello everyone.

I installed InDesign v. 20.3.1 on macOS Sequoia 15.5, and until recently I also had version ID 19.5.4 installed. Ever since I uninstalled the older version (ID 19.5.4), macOS Quick Look with the spacebar stopped working. I tried reinstalling ID v. 20.3.1, but it didn’t fix the issue. Only after reinstalling version ID 19.5.4 did Quick Look start working again. Maybe this can be helpful to someone.
P.S. It wasn’t easy to figure out.

Hi @kabu96,

Thanks again for reporting this. The product team has confirmed that the issue has been addressed in the latest Pre-release build 21.0 of InDesign. Could you please try installing the latest Pre-release build via the Creative Cloud Desktop App and check if Quick Look works as expected?

If you don't yet have access to Pre-release builds, you can join the program through the links below:

Appreciate your patience, and would love to hear if this resolves the issue on your end.

Are you saying Quick Look is not working _at all_ or just with InDesign files?

My Quick Look is working on my Mac, Sequoia 15.5, InDesign 20.3.1.

Try relaunching the Finder.
You can also force quit the Quick Look processes in Activity Monitor.
Finally, try clearing the Quick Look cache or resetting Spotlight.

Hi Dave,

Quick Look wasn't working only with InDesign.

After reinstalling the older version, everything is fine now.

Abhishek Rao also confirms it's a bug.

Anyway, I had already tried all the tests you suggested, but without success.

Thanks.

Hi @kabu96,

Thanks for sharing the details.

I was able to reproduce the issue on my end and have logged a bug for it. I've also escalated this to the product team and will share an update here as soon as I hear back from them.

Appreciate your patience in the meantime!

Abhishek

What is Preferences > File Handling > Saving InDesign Files > Always Save Preview Images with Documents? On or off?
