Question

Quickie font selection that constantly reverts back to Myriad pro

Every time I go to change fonts or even to change from regular to bold, it makes it so difficult by being so quick. I literally have to click on regular and hit the down arrow or the up arrow to get it to change fine options once I do you manage to get the font changed. I've tried typing the name of the font in which doesn't help or clicking down on the default Font until I find the one I want. This is extremely annoying and time consuming. Are there any solutions? Thank you I have a time for any solutions you come up with.

Thanks all. Problem is solved for some reason by taking the version down to 17 and then back up to 18. I'm not sure why it's fixed it but I am not questioning it. The issue in this particular string was about character not paragraph or anything else. It would not let me change fonts unless I arrowed down the last from the default. It was exceptionally annoying had been going on forever it appears, to me anyway.

To change InDesign's default font (size, leading etc), select the font you want with no documents open then close and reopen the application.

Set up Paragraph (and Character Styles) for any new document.

Don't expect InDesign to behave like a word processor, its a publishing tool – horses for courses.

Learn about things like Next Style and Keyboard Shortcuts for styles.

There are lots of tutorials such as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWGbugAFCiM

That's not what I meant actually. It's hard to show up in a screenshot. The issue was that need time I went to character and try to change it from the default which I personally don't care why did is to whatever I would like it to be, the drop-down menu would snap back into the original place and would not let me change the type style unless I just I arrowed down the list. After sending out this request for help, I took the app down to Version 17 and then back up to 18 and it works fine now. In fact all of the glitchy issues I had are gone. It's totally freaky but then again this is an old iMac running Big Sur 11.7.6 as it will not go up any further. I can't afford I newer one so I deal with all the funny little things that are going on right now, But I really appreciate everyone's imput.!

Are you experiencing this problem while trying to define a Paragraph or Character style, or while trying to apply a spot or override font change? That is, what dialogue is giving you this trouble?

(That you really shouldn't be doing the latter, spot changes, is another topic...)

Now as I mentioned below, the issue was in character as well as a few other strange things. I took the version down to 17 and then back up to 18 and it appears that it is running fine now. So far.
