Randomly Arranges Objects from Background on Top of Text

Frequently when I open my file in InDesign CC, images that I placed behind text randomly get arranged on top of the text, so the text can no longer be seen. Why is this happening and how do I get it to stop? I just placed a $2300 order and the job got ruined because I didn't notice that this happened again. This has been happening frequently with different images and text boxes on different pages. So confounding!

Thanks for any help that can be provided on this issue.

Is your background image a master page item, and are you releasing it so that it can be edited? Releasing MP items changes the stacking order.

    Hi Rob,

from screenshot one I cannot see that the image is on a master.

It's on the same spread with the text frames.

From screenshot two: The image moved in stacking order above all elements on the even page.

I assume that between the two screenshots the odd page was moved around in the document.

    That's my theory for now.

Are you reorganizing the Layers panel at the end of the job, by any chance? I can't think of any other way that the stacking order would be updated without you being aware of it.

No I haven't touched the layers panel. I'm just working on one layer.

    Hi livingdevin ,

    did you rearrange pages?

Can you show a sample spread where this happens with hidden characters and frame edges showing.

Select the frame with the image and post a screenshot where also the Layer Panel is showing all elements on the spread.

What's your exact version of InDesign ( see under About InDesign ) and OS?

Consider placing images on its own layer to prevent something like this in the future.
