Is realtime collaboration in InDesign possible? If not does anyone know if it's on the cards for the future?

If you need to work simultaneously with another user on different parts of text, the solution exists since a long time: InCopy.

Hi @MDNT23 , Also, how well the beta InDesign cloud format will work remains to be seen.

The other option is to use a file syncing service like Dropbox, where you can send a sync invitation for a job folder to your collaborator, and when the invitation is accepted the folder and its changes will sync to both computers. This requires good communication, otherwise if you work on the same file simultaneously you might get conflicting copies.

What is your definition of "realtime collaboration"?

Is that the ability of two users to have the same file open at the same time and work on it simultaneously?

That is not likely to be possible, but if you try using the new InDesign Cloud Document feature, two users can take turns working on the same file (but not simultaneously). This is a new (BUT STILL BETA) feature in InDesign 2024 version 19.4:
