Rectangle set in master page no longer selectable in pages - Windows

I can no longer select rectangles placed in master pages on other pages in document. Override elements in master page does not work, all objects on page are unlocked. If I delete them from the Master page they disappear everywhere but I cannot select them. Never had that problem before.
