Refreshing linked Excel file without losing formatting.

Question

Does anyone know of a workflow that would allow me to update data in an InDesign table from a linked Excel spreadtsheet WITHOUT changing any of the existing formatting in InDesign? If I make changes to the Excel file, and then refresh the link, I lose all my formatting to the data text in the InDesign table.

First thing to try is do all the formatting in Excel and place it as a formatted table.

If that's not giving you satisfactory results, you'll need to place the Excel spreadsheet as an unformatted table, do all the formatting and the create cell and table styles from the formatting.
