Remove the circumvent symbol.

I transferred over a Word document into InDesign. I selected save formatting and it did a pretty good job. But everywhere I have the letters s and t together, such in a word "store," the st has a circumvent symbol over it. Everywhere in the entire document. I thought it would be an easy fix with copying the letters to Find/Change and typing in st by itself to change. But the circumvent symbol did not copy.

I even tried to just delete the letters and retype them (though that is not a good solution with a 100 page document, and that does not work. I can't get rid of that symbol no matter what I try. HELP please.

I don't know what a "circumvent symbol" is but I suspect from your description that what you actually have is the st ligature:

You can use the Find/Change window to turn off all ligatures on all instances of those letters, yet leave all other ligatures on elsewhere, like fi ligatures that I imagine you'd actually want to keep.

Plain old Times Roamin' throws in that decoration on that ligature? I've never seen it! (Then again, I avoid TR...)

And yes, if you set type in TNR with defaults in InDesign, it turns on all of the decorative nonsense by default. Weirdly enough I like it, because whenever I see this particular ligature in InDesign, I know that my client is using templates or assets that date back a decade or more, and accordingly I have a lot more work to do than I'd previously estimated.

What is a "circumvent symbol"? Perhaps you can post a screen snip to show us what you mean.

Imports from Word can often bring unintended garbage with them. As a start, completely blind on all the details, try saving the Word file as RTF, then open that file and save it again as DOCX. That often clears up corruption and glitches in Word docs that are invisible until, say, you try to import them to ID.

But some details will help pinpoint a better answer.
