Are you saying your GPU was supported in ID 2025 but it’s not in 2026? (Disable the AI features in 2026 first.)

If so, have you timed a complex process in 2025 vs. 2026?

If 2025 is faster, stay with 2025. (Be sure to download the installer since it will disappear when 2027 comes out.)

Thank you for your response. To clarify, everything worked perfectly up until version 20.5.5 (InDesign 2025), which is the version I had to roll back to. Regardless of when GPU acceleration was introduced in Windows, the fact remains that the 2026 version is slow and laggy due to this artificial GPU limitation, even with my hardware specs.

In version 2025, I can work completely seamlessly. It makes absolutely no sense that the exact same file runs slowly in InDesign 2026 but flies in InDesign 2025. My immediate solution was to downgrade to version 20.5.5.

I must insist: the peripherals I choose to use are my decision alone, and I am the only one who decides when they are obsolete, not Adobe's software updates.

Again, I understand your frustration but you’re wrong. I have plenty of complaints myself but I also understand that supporting older hardware means crippling new hardware. That does nobody any good.

For what it’s worth, the Windows version of InDesign didn’t even have the GPU Performance option until relatively very recently. Have you ever had this option enabled under your setup? Or did you replace your monitor with a different one that’s not supported by InDesign?

Thank you for the reply, but that is not accurate. GPU Performance for Windows has been available in InDesign for several versions now, and it is a standard expectation for any professional design software in 2026.

To answer your questions: No, I have not changed my monitor. It is the exact same standard 1080p setup I have always used. The option worked perfectly fine in previous versions of InDesign, and my GPU (NVIDIA RTX 3060) works flawlessly across the entire Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) and other demanding 3D software.

The issue started exclusively with the InDesign 2026 update, which now enforces an arbitrary restriction that renders a powerful workstation useless by bottlenecking it into CPU-only rendering. A software update should optimize performance, not strip away hardware capabilities based on monitor resolution.

GPU Performance for Windows has been available in InDesign for several versions now,

GPU Performance on Windows was introduced in InDesign 20.4, that is 14 months ago. For InDesign, it’s a brand new option.

Other than that, I’m not sure how it worked with your 1080p monitor before in the first place because I think this option supports only 2K+ monitors. I’m on Mac so hopefully, Windows users will provide more info here.
