Request for InDesign Version Without AVX2 Support for AMD Processors

I would like to update my InDesign program to latest version 26. But it tells me my system does not support it. My sytem uses an AMD processor which is not supported. Will Adobe release a version without the AVX2 extension for those who do not use or need it for AMD? I don't want to buy a new computer just for that.

Hi @mcramblitt:

Photoshop just released v26 so perhaps that is the source of the confusion. As per @James Gifford—NitroPress, InDesign v20 is the lastest version. Both fall under the "2025, October 2024" umbrella, so this is endlessly confusing.

Here are the system requirements for InDesign 2025, October 2024 release (aka v20): https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/system-requirements.html

I'm thinking you have already seen this and understand that your older processor is no longer supported. Keeping in mind that we are users like you who don't know exactly what Adobe has in store for future versions, we can make an educated guess that Adobe will continue the march forward, focusing on supporting newer systems and not trying to maintain backward compatibility.

Until you are ready for a new computer, I'd stick with the previous version of InDesign, which will continue to run.

Hello sorry about my english. I want to update my Adobe cloud programms but it is not possible because of the AVX2. What ever this means. I am using an MAC Pro late 2013 (3,7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5) with 64 GB RAM and 2 TB ssd

with Ventura 13.7.1 (22H221). Till the new Updates it was everthing fine but now...... I do not want to buy a new MAC now for using Adobe Software

You have two choices. A new computer or new software.

Your computer is well over 10 years old and you're going to have to replace it eventually.

I'm not at all clear on your question, here. First, the latest version of InDesign, just released and updated, is v20.1, or InDesign 2025.

And AFAIK it runs on any fairly current Windows or Mac system and OS, no matter whose CPU it uses. However, ID has long required at least 16GB RAM, which might be the real reason for the compatibility issue.

Unless you're running an ARM system, here, and again AFAIK ARM support is somewhere between experimental and beta.
