I accidently x out of indesign without saving the file I was working with. Is there a way to retrieve it?

Unfortunately, not. 

 

BUT... do you still have InDesign open? 

 

It might get your file recovered - if you "kill" InDesign - so when you start it again - it might "think" that previous session haven't ended successfully and might try to recover your file... 

 

But that's a very long shot...
