Right alignment shortcut not working (Shift+Ctrl+R)

Hi all, just wondering if anyone have a solution or know the answer as to why the right align shortcut would stop working within InDesign (and Illustrator).

 

This is the second time I have encountered this issue, the first time I did a couple of restarts and it seemed to jolt the program back into gear, but this time it is persistant as ever.

 

Left align and centre align (Shift+Ctrl+L / Shift+Ctrl+C) work without fault, but for whatever reason Shift+Ctrl+R will not work.

I initiallly thought it may have been a keyboard, issue but it seems to only be right align that the program has an issue with. Even assigning a new shortcut code will not solve the problem.

 

I really don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall the program as I'll have to set the majority of my preferences again, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I agree with Eugene. It's usually third party applications and extensions "steal shortcuts". The way to test this is to quit out of all your applications and reboot. If possible, hold down the Shift key while launching to disable startup applications. Then, before launching any other application, open InDesign and try the shortcut. If it works now, you just need to open other applications one by one to see which is the culprit.

For me - my antivirus hijacks the keyboard shortcuts and I have to keep Pausing Secure Entries to allow certain shortcuts. It's annoying cos the preference doesn't stick in the anti-virus software.

 

And you can always go to Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts and define the shortcut or see if another command was accidentally given to the key strokes.

 

All in all you might need to narrow down some third party software to see if it's hijacking your keyboard shortcuts.

 

What OS and what versions of the software?

I'm running Windows 11 with the latest InDesign (18.2)

 

I disabled all start-up applications other than Creative Cloud and still had no luck. Went into the keyboard settings and it was still set to the default Shift+Ctrl+R which didn't work, restarted the computer again and the shortcut showed up as beingg assigned to Shift+Ctrl+Alt+R, reverted that back, quit the program and it seems to have sorted itself out now!

Has been a bit of a nightmare process but hopefully it doesn't show up again.
