Running Headers for Prior Pages

I'd like to make running headers that function as "continued" — but headers only reflect the information from the page their actually on. How can I make the header reflect the LAST relevant character style?

In-built features won't allow you to do so.

But you can check this out: Power Headers | in-tools.com (1 month free trial)

NOT SOLVED! The suggested script product hasn't been updated for years.

Absolutely should be a built-in function. Found a similar request with many other people wanting it, over on indesign.uservoice.com

Hi four waters media,

Here is a tutorial that might help your query.

Learn how to number pages, chapters, and sections in InDesign

Also to understand your query better I would request you to please share your query in details and what exactly do you mean when you say " LAST relevant character style"

I want a header that refers to a style sheet (para or character) on the prior page, in order to say: "so-and-so title continued."

If I just use a variable header, it only gives me the option of the "so-and-so title" being from the page the actual running header is on [first or last]. I'm looking for something that I can use as a title from the PRIOR page as the variable. Is that clearer?

I'll review your suggestion more thoroughly, but after a quick look, I don't think that's my question.
