Saving edits made in INDDL in the Cloud to INDD on the computer

I created a document in InDesign, shared it for text editing with InCopy on the web (beta). It has been edited as INDDL. How do I save the edited file back to my computer as INDD?

While the Save-As is simple to do, the existence of a wholly-separate file type creates file management headaches for those who work on many documents.

Hi @Hanna32686125k4j8,

Thank you for the update. To assist us in examining this issue further, could you please provide a brief screen recording that captures the entire workflow, starting from the opening of the shared cloud document to the moment when InCopy on the web becomes unresponsive or InDesign crashes while trying to open the INDDL?

Additionally, please confirm the precise version of the operating system and the version of InDesign you are using. If possible, it would also be very helpful to share an affected document by saving it locally and then packaging it (ref: https://adobe.ly/4pSNBO9) for testing. If the document is sensitive, you can send it to me via direct message and utilize any of the public cloud sharing services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.

I look forward to your response.

Hi @Abhishek Rao ,

Thank you for following up. Operating system version 23H2, InDesign version 20.5.1. Unfortunately I am not authorized to share the document nor to send screening recordings. I guess I need to wait until this tool will be fully developed. Thank you anyway.

Hi @Hanna32686125k4j8,

Thanks for reaching out. When a document is shared for text editing using InCopy on the web, the edits are saved to the cloud version of the file as an INDDL. To get those changes back as a local INDD, you'll need to open the same shared document in the desktop version of InDesign while you're signed in with the same Adobe ID. Once you open it from the Cloud Documents section in InDesign, all the text edits made in the browser will sync into the file automatically. After that, you can simply use Save As to store a local copy on your computer as a standard INDD file.

If you don't see the latest edits when opening the file in InDesign, let me know, and we can check the sync status or walk through it.

Looking forward to your update.

Thank you very much, Abhishek. Unfortunately it works only for short text-only documents. Documents with several linked images sync only sporadically; the InCopy (beta) version stops responding and edits made to it get lost. The desktop InDesign keeps crashing while I try to open the INDDL from cloud.
