Question

Saving to pdf low quality

Hi there -

I'm relatively new to InDesign. I have a graphic on screen here a 230mb Jpeg. It's very sharp within Indesign. I've created a simple document using it, yet whatever .pdf export setting I choose - smallest file size or print -  the graphic in my new .pdf document is pixelated and nowhere near as sharp as it is within Indesign.

Could someone help me with this?

The original ppi you can get from Photoshop, Image Size. This is of no great important for the final result, which depends on the effective ppi. This depends on your size in InDesign, check with the Links panel.

That's presumably what Windows shows for the original JPEG (not the PDF), so we have that the original resolution is 96 dpi. But what is the effective ppi? And what do you see when you view the PDF in Adobe Acrobat software?

Please view it in Acrobat Reader or Acrobat not Explorer. And please answer my question, or let us know if you need help finding the original and effective ppi.

Which PDF reader are you using to view the file?

That is no way to check a PDF. Open it in Acrobat or Reader.
