Scripts crashing ID 25

There are two scripts that I am in dire need of for my current project in ID 2025.

Both are from very professional script writers (they are commercial), and they say that their scripts have been tested on many machines and systems with no trouble. But when I run them, they crash ID and have to exit via task manager.

Is there some way to debug these scripts on my machine to grasp which part of the code is causing the issues?

Very frustrated.....

Thank you, and have a good day!

Yes this is a plugin (don't know what uxp is) that explodes ID but there was a script also that causes ID to freeze

Let me clear up some confusion, as the vendor in question (Em Software, using our plugin WordsFlow).

WordsFlow is a C++-based plugin, not a script, but a deep and complex product with many aspects.

The crashes in question were caused by an InDesign bug handling localization in the Links panel, and really nothing to do with WordsFlow. (We do add information columns to the Links panel, and it's possible one of those was hitting some untested localization paths in InDesign.)

I hope this is a helpful clarification.

Hi @SuzzyFlamingo ,

I would ask the script writers to provide you with a version of a script that will write something like a log file that monitors the script and helps to find the cause of the crashes.

Hm. In case the script let InDesign "hang" so you have to terminate InDesign with the Task Manager I would try to create a new User on your machine and run InDesign and the script through the new user account.

One script hangs and the other crashes. What exactly shoul i tell the hanger? The crasher is a major software company (EM software testing the link to Word docs). What can I say to them that they haven't thought about?

A new user? really?! Why would this help?

Your concern is appreciated!

Basically, an infinite amount of things.

If you're in communication with the developers, they need to ask you the right questions and you need to send them the right answers. Provided it's covered by your support agreement.

Hi Susan,

Are you patched up to 20.5?

Have you crashed in only one document or in any/all documents?

Yes, i installed that patch.

It is crashing also in a new doc, so corruption cannot be the issue

Just for the record, we're working with Susan as we speak to figure this out...
