Selected tools not working

Hi All

Indesign 13.0 is playing up this morning. I am running indesign on a mac which I have recently updated Mac OS High Sierra.

When I select a tool such as the typetool and go to place on the page the curser changes to a hand and moves the page around.

I have added a video link to demonstrate the problem.

Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated as I am on a very tight deadline.

Thanks

    Correct answer Adi Floyde

in the meantime you could try this solution:

I've since found out that you can actually just double click a layer to rename it and press space bar in that. Seems to fix it in the same way.

    Willcheyney, you are brilliant!

I've been having trouble with this forever in all three design programs — Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. The only thing that worked for me, was to close everything and re-boot. Really frustrating! I've been searching online for a solution for so long, until I finally came across your answer. Now I just follow your instructions, and within seconds I'm in the clear. You have no idea how much time and frustration you've saved me! (Well, you probably do, considering you had the same issues in the past). Thank you so much!!!

Thanks Vladan, I have just spoken to the indesign representative, apparently it is a known issue which they are looking to fix with the next update. He deleated the preferances files which seems to have work for the time being and said if the problem comes back to revert to 2017 until the next update.

While on the phone to Adobe customer support the problem resolved itself for a short time and then came back. I am currently waiting for a call back from one of the indesign team to help resolve the issue.

check if the "spacebar" on your keyboard has been stuck (pressed)?

...or try to change your keyboard

did you try to trash your indesign preferences?

    ...

close and relaunch InDesign, and IMMEDIATELY hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.
