Question

Selecting "Decorative image (no alt text)" should automatically apply the 'Artifact' tag for PDFs

If you select "Decorative image (no alt text)" in the "Alt Text" frame, why doesn't it doesn't automatically apply the 'Artifact' tag in the "Tagged PDF" window?

I can't think of a situation that it would be appropriate to apply "Decorative image (no alt text)" to anything that wasn't intended to be artifacted in a PDF.

It's frustrating to have to do both steps in a document with many artifacted images.

Hi @Jaz38014306mfun,

Thanks for bringing this up. I can definitely see how needing to manually artifact decorative images after selecting "Decorative image (no alt text)" can be frustrating.

Currently, selecting the "Decorative image" checkbox in the Alt Text panel doesn't automatically apply the 'Artifact' tag in the Tagged PDF structure. You're absolutely right that this feels like a natural next step, since decorative images are typically meant to be skipped by assistive technologies.

I've shared this feedback with the product team internally, but it would be great if you could also post it as a feature request on our UserVoice page. This helps our teams track interest and prioritize improvements that really matter to users, and you'll get notified of any updates.

Thanks,

Abhishek
