Share for Review Link Not Updating in Adobe InDesign for Brochure Files

I frequently create brochures, and at some point in the project without fail the share for review link stops allowing me to update content. The review links are an integral part of our workflow, and for my non-brochure work they are fine (although I have to update those less frequently), but with my brochure documents it will allow me to create a new link, but after that I can no longer publish any changes. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign, turned off and on countless times, ensured the document I’m updating is the only one open, packaged then opened the idml and re-saved the document to indd. It just doesn’t work, and it’s really frustrating to explain to our clients that their comments have gone because we had to make a new link (or they get confused, comment on an old link and we don’t make the updates). Any ideas?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for your continued patience and for sharing all the detailed findings here. I understand how disruptive this has been, especially when it impacts your review workflow and client communication.

I wanted to share an update that the issue related to “There was an error updating the artifact” for larger or more complex documents has been addressed in the latest version of Adobe InDesign Prerelease build 21.4.0.49.

Could you please try installing this latest Prerelease version from the Creative Cloud Desktop app under the Apps tab and test the Share for Review update workflow again? This will help confirm if the fix resolves the issue on your end.

If you are not part of the Prerelease program, you can join using the links below:

Hi, Abhishek. I followed the instructions to join the prerelease program and the InDesign prerelease build does not show up under my Prerelease tab (although and Illustrator prerelease option does). Please advise.

How long did it take? It’s not showing up for me either, but I can see pre-release for Illustrator.

    Hi @katie_0825,

I’m sorry to hear how frustrating this has been, especially since Share for Review is such an important part of your workflow and it’s impacting your client communication.

To help me look into this further, could you please confirm the exact InDesign version and your operating system details? Also, does this behavior happen only with larger brochure files, or do you see it with shorter and simpler documents as well? If you have noticed any specific pattern, like it happening after a certain number of updates or file size, please do share that too.

If possible, it would be very helpful if you could share a sample file where this issue occurs so we can test it on our end. If the file is confidential, you can send it via DM or use a secure cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox. Before sharing, please package the file using these steps so all related assets are included: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/preflighting-files-handoff.html#package_files

In the meantime, I’d also recommend trying the steps in this help article and letting me know if they make any difference: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/resolve-share-for-review.html

Once I have these details, I’ll be happy to take this further with the team.

    Looking forward to your update.

Hi Abhishek, thanks for your reply and for the suggestions. I followed the steps in the article but unfortunately the issue remains. Here are the details you requested:

    • Operating system: macOS 26.3 (25D125)
    • InDesign version: v21.2
    • I have only noticed this with our larger documents, but as you’ll see they’re not that big at all, and I’ve wondered if that’s because I end up updating the link on these more frequently than other projects
    • Packaged file example: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CfBqvfV-upkzQy6CgT1IanNSYU8m4nTf?usp=sharing do let me know if you’d like any more examples

Thank you for looking into this for us :)

Hi! Jumping on this thread as I am having the exact same issue and have done the same troubleshooting. I have a large document that I have now had to make 8 different links for 😐 incredibly frustrating and disruptive to the workflow of our Marketing team and our communication with clients. Glad we’re not alone and hoping there’s an answer soon!
