Share for text editing (beta) doesn't work on Microsoft Edge

When using Adobe InDesign and clicking the link to open InCopy on the Web beta, the link opens in Microsoft Edge. Instead of loading the document, an “Incompatible Browser” message appears. What should I do?

Correct answer Abhishek Rao

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your patience while we checked this with the team. I wanted to share a quick update here. As of now, InCopy on the web (Share for text editing - beta) is supported only in Google Chrome. Other browsers, including Microsoft Edge, aren't supported at this time, which is why you're seeing the 'Incompatible Browser' message when opening the link in Edge.

The help documentation has been updated to reflect this clearly, and you can refer to it here for the latest supported browser details:

For the moment, please open the share link in Google Chrome to access and edit the document.

I appreciate everyone flagging this and sharing your observations.

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for sharing this, and I understand how confusing it is to see an 'Incompatible Browser' message in Edge, especially since it's Chromium-based. I'm checking this with the product team to confirm whether Edge is officially supported for InCopy on the web or if the current beta is limited to Chrome only.

In the meantime, here's the official documentation for the feature, including the current browser requirements:

I'll keep you posted as soon as I hear back from the team.

InCopy-on-the-web works OK for me in Chrome browser.

When I try to use the InCopy-on-the-web link in Edge browser, I get this:

My early tests *suggest* that it currently only runs in Chrome. Bear in mind this is [beta].

Hi Whitney,

You will need a Chromium-based browser to use this. That means, basically, Google Chrome browser.

Here are some other known limitations of this beta portion of InDesign:

  • Certain file formats, such as BMP, SVG, GIF, PDF, JPG with special effects, and MP4 assets, may not render properly in Chrome.
  • If you are using previously shared documents as part of ID beta releases, you need to reshare the document.
  • If the INDDL file is saved in Projects, it will always open in the web version. To open it in InDesign, right-click on the file, select Move > Your Files.

Edge is Chromium-based, Mike. Something else is going on here.

Correct, so this is the error message I recieved when opening the file in Edge.
