Sharing an Indesign document with a client

I'm new to sharing an InDesign document for review and comment with a client. It appears that all invitees need to have an Adobe account to view the document. Is that true?

Are you asking specifically about the File > Share for Review feature? It can be confusing because there is more than one way to send an InDesign document for an online review (Share for Review, PDF, etc.)

If you are asking about inviting a client through Share for Review, then they do not need a Creative Cloud account if you set Access Settings to Public. But they must have a Creative Cloud subscription if you set Access Settings to Invite Only.

The way I tested this was that when I try an Invite Only link, it starts with the Creative Cloud sign-in screen, but when I try a Public link, it goes straight to displaying the InDesign document in Share for Review in the web browser without asking for any authentication.

Hi there,

I agree with Conrad.

The review is possible without signing in with Adobe ID. If you have created a public link, then the reviewer will not be prompted for any Adobe credentials and they can comment as a guest user.

Note: Guest login is available only if Commenting for public users has been checked under public settings by the owner of the document.

Yes, everyone needs to have an Adobe Creative Cloud subsription to open any INDD.

Why arre you sharing the INDD? If someone is not trained well in InDesign he or she might cause serious damage to a file even if a subscription is available.

Share instead a PDF and save it so, that they can make their comments and annotations in the PDF.
