"I am typing in all caps in InDesign. When I keep the Caps Lock on and try to type using the Shift key, it doesn’t type in lowercase. This problem only occurs in InDesign; it doesn’t happen in any other software."

I'm having the same issue, though I'm only working in english and so it's not the biggest deal to me, this bug should still be fixed, especially if it's effecting other languages in a way that matters more!

Hi @unique_person4993,

Thanks for sharing the details. I'm checking this behavior with the product team.. I'll update you here once I have more information.

Thanks,

Abhishek

@Bill Silbert  & @jmlevy what you're describing is the behaviour on the Mac, on Windows it's different, the Caps Lock key reverses the case.
And indeed the Windows version of InDesign doesn't behave normally (since version 18 at least).

Hmm.

@Bill Silbert  & @jmlevy  the behavior seems to have changed, though I don't know exactly when as I have a version gap between v8 and v16.

In CS6 (v8) holding Shift with Caps Lock on give lower case, in v16 and beyond it does not. Other programs in other programs caps lock seems to toggle the state with the Shift key.

By its very defintion the Cap Lock is supposed to prevent typing in lower case. I agree with jmlevy that I have never heard of being able to get lower case by using the shift key. As a matter of fact I wonder why you would keep the cap lock on at all when you don't want upper case. If you need upper and lower case isn't it more efficient to use the shift key only when you need an upper case character?

I understand that keeping Caps Lock on while writing in English and using the Shift key to type lowercase letters is not appropriate. However, when writing in Gujarati, it is necessary to type with Caps Lock on, and for some characters, using Caps Lock along with the Shift key can create issues. This problem arises in some cases, but it does not occur in Illustrator or Photoshop.

Either I have missed an obvious thing since I started to use InDesign with version 2, either I don't understand what you mean, but according to me, if the Caps lock key is activated it has never been possible to get lowercase by holding down the shift key.

Version of InDesign and OS?  All documents? Only one? Only new? Only old?

Have you checked to be sure All Caps isn't activated?

"The latest version of InDesign, and it is for Windows. This problem occurs in every document. However, when I type in Urdu, this problem does not occur. When I type in English, it does."
