Slow performance | Adobe InDesign 2023

Hi!

I'm working on a book layout, which is relatively huge. Actual Indesign file is about 148 MB and with links it's alltogether about 1,9 GB. Done this kind of publicatons before many times with previous versions of ID and no problem.  But now the the performance is super slow and I can't continue.  Tried also the previous versions of ID with this file and no major changes on performance.

I've also done all the tricks with Display performance, GPU and splitted publications in three parts, changed every picture to lowres images, cleared the cache and nothing helps. Computer is equipped with 4098 MB RAM with the latest OS.

Other apps work just fine and first 200 pages are working smoothly with both low res and high res images, but when you try to do something with any page after 300, spinning ball appears and everything works in slo-mo. Everything I try to do with the boxes or text, or anything doesn't work properly.

Just wondering is the slow performance -problem with huge amount of different elements in the actual layout, with the RAM (how much more do you need RAM, if that's the case with this kind of publication), or is the problem with the hard drive? Tried it both with external and internal drive. Enough space in both and same s**t happens.

I guess there's no page limitations in ID, but is there some limitations of the size of the publication, what it comes to actual app. And is there any possibility to share the usage of the RAM between the applications, which would be perfect adjustment in the future. Meaning that if there's heavy payload in Photoshop, you can adjust the the RAM usage to PS at the time and when using ID, same thing. Somekind of switch of swiper would be perfect.

Anyways, any suggestions anyone? I'm totally stuck.

The recommended MINIMUM for RAM is 16GB. I'm surprised you can even start up a computer with only 4GB.

I know. I have 40 GB, to be exact. Has been enough for last two years:)!

That's not what you put in your original post. Yes, 40GB should be quite sufficient. So, what operating system and what exact version and build of InDesign? What processor?
