Smart Quotes keeps turning itself off

Been having repeated problems with the smart quotes (typographer's quotes) setting randomly getting turned off.  I have noticed this periodically for a while now, and thought maybe it had something to do with working on the file on multiple machines, although its not a setting I ever turn off purposely on any of my Macs.  The most recent two times, however, I'm very certain that I am the only one who has worked on the file, and its been on the same machine.  This is driving me nuts.  Have other people experienced this?

I'm on a Mac, currently using 2017.1 release of InDesign.

Thanks for any help.

It's possible that you may be accidentally hitting the keyboard command that toggles this feature on and off: Command-Option-Shift-' on a Mac or Control-Alt-Shift-' on a PC. I did find a peculiar thing to note when I tested this command. It always seems to work if you do it while no documents are open but the program is active but it only sometimes worked for me when a document was open. It is, however, the official keyboard shortcut for this.

Its happened often enough that I think its unlikely I would have hit all those keys, unless there is some similar set of keys I use for something else.  Can't think of one.
