space bar / hand tool stops working

I have this problem lately both in InDesign CC 2017 and Illustrator CC 2017 where the shortcut to use the hand tool with the space bar stops working. It will be working fine and then all of a sudden it just stops.

I've tried quitting InDesign or Illustrator when it happens and reloading the app but that doesn't work. The only thing that works to get that shortcut back is to reboot my whole computer.

Hi. If you are on Windows try this fix. Works on my Windows 10: fix Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc..

Disable Touchpad delay.

I've got this problem on a freshly installed Windows 10 (ver. 10.0.17134) with latest InDesign (2019 ver 14.0 x64). Pressing space transforms the pointer icon into the hand, but the document doesn't move when I press the left mouse button and drag to move.

MatejKriz: I don't have that setting for accidental moving of the cursor, in my Windows 10. Perhaps due to different brand of touchpad. Disabling the touchpad within the "Synaptics Pointing Device" made no difference.

Pressing and holding down Alt, and then also space, works as just Space did on my previous computer with Windows 7 and InDesign 2018.

What should I do?

It's often a conflict with another application, for example Chrome. After you restart, don't open any other applications. Does it work ok? Pay attention as you open additional applications to see which one is causing the conflict.

I have the same problem. But the cursor works again when I restart InDesign. I don't need to restart.
