Spacebar not working while typing

I just opened up the Paragraph Styles in an InDesign doc and all of a sudden the spacebar will not register when I am typing in a text box. It registers fine in every other aspect of the application. But for some reason I cannot put a space between words. It works fine in other applications and even in other in design files. I've restarted my machine (Windows 10) and reinstalled InDesign (Version 16.0) and the problem persists. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have worked around the problem by copying and pasting my changes into an older version of the document. I'd still like to know what happened in case someone else has the same issue. Very bizzare that it is just for this one file. Could it be corrupt? A bug? Or am I just missing something obvious like a toggle for typing spaces?

It is related to the font? Try a different font to test.

Do you have unexpected word spacing settings in Justification? (Paragraph panel menu)

Is the file corrupt? https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-file-issues.html
